Elevation Donates to the Wishbone Foundation

elevation news Dec 26, 2018

Congratulations to our November winner, Sara Baker, for her nomination to our Charity Program – “Elevate our Community”!

Sara nominated the Wishbone Foundation.

What is the Wishbone Foundation?

They are a non-profit organization that provides training and resources for labor and delivery teams so they have the skills to comfort grieving families in a time of devastating loss.

What is the significance of “Wishbone”?

Everyone WISHES for the best and WISHES for a healthy beautiful baby!  Brad and Jianna Wright (the founders of Wishbone Foundation) also WISHED this during their pregnancy after going through an early miscarriage in 2011.  While shopping, Jianna found a necklace that stood out and spoke to her heart and soul—it was a small, simple wishbone on a red string! She wore the necklace day in and day out, till shortly after delivering their WISH, Mackensie Owenn.  It is because of their WISH for no family to have to endure the pain of losing a child, that they created the Wishbone Foundation.

What do they do?

They provide training and resources to nurses and their labor and delivery teams so they can support grieving families experiencing miscarriage, stillborn and early infant death.  Additionally, they provide comforting resources for grieving families.

Without proper training and resources, labor and delivery teams can’t offer the support families need. Their vision is that no family has to endure the tragic loss of a baby without the caring support of well-trained bereavement teams.

Why did Sara choose this charity?

Nearly one in 200 pregnancies in the United States results in a stillbirth. I am nominating this charity on the 7th anniversary of my best friend losing her daughter to stillbirth. One year and three weeks later, we lost our niece as a stillborn as well. There are very limited resources for bereavement training for labor and delivery nurses and Wishbone Foundation set out to change that. After going through an unimaginable tragedy, they turned their sadness into helping others. They currently provide training for nurses all over Colorado. We lived through two stillborn births very close to our family and this training is so important and needed. Labor and delivery teams and social workers need help   to receive training and materials that will help them support families physically and emotionally.

Sara volunteers at their biggest fundraiser, a golf tournament, as well as other events throughout the year.

Please congratulate Sara on her desire to volunteer and support those that are truly making a difference in her community!
